What is a Schipperke?
Schipperkes are highly intelligent and independent dogs. They have a workman's attitude, but all too often they want to decide what their job should be. They are extremely trainable, but they prefer training methods that engage their reasoning capacities. They are explorers at heart, not runaways; but a Schipperke can get out of hearing range within seconds, and not think to come home before they are thoroughly lost. Because of this, Schipperkes are best in homes where there is a fenced in yard, or an owner who loves going for long walks everyday. They are small and easy to care for, and they have a keen sense of humor. Sometimes that humor gets them into trouble.
